On 13 and 14 June 2018, the first Global Forum on Inclusion Trade for LDCs (least-developed countries) was held at the WTO in order to discuss LDCs’ situation and the possible necessary manoeuvres to obtain increasing inclusion, for said countries, into the multilateral trading system. The forum was organized by the Enhanced Integrated Framework, a partnership between LDCs, donors, partner agencies and the WTO, and attended by 42 representatives from LDCs. The discussion of the Global Forum was focused on sustainable trade in agriculture, as well as developing trade strategies to support women and, more generally, on the possible improvements for trade in Africa. In his opening video message, DG Azevêdo said: “This event is exclusively dedicated to achieving inclusive trade in LDCs — and therefore it could not be more important. Our aim here is to ensure that more and more people benefit from international trade — especially in LDCs. We must work to strengthen the system so that it is responsive to all of our members. And we must build on the various decisions on LDC issues that WTO members have already taken in recent years.”
