The European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) for securities (ESMA), banking (EBA), and insurance and pensions (EIOPA) drafted a written warning directed towards EU consumers in order to make them aware on the risks which are related to the spread of virtual currencies. EU bodies expressed concerns on the number of consumers that are getting more and more interested in using virtual currencies without having a real background that allows them to exactly understand the possible repercussions. Specifically, ESAs highlighted that virtual currencies are subject to multiple variations depending on the fluxes of the markets and they show clear signs of pricing bubble, which may expose EU consumers to the risk of losing all the money they invested.
