A team of ten special investigators from the Internal Revenue Service have initiated the mapping of thousands of accounts and “encrypted” deposits. Their work will focus exclusively on crimes of international dimensions. In addition to studying, examining and tracing the undeclared assets that are re-emerging from the vaults of Swiss banks, the task force will also focus on identifying and investigating all those special cases in which tax evaders have used either direct or indirect currencies virtual. It seems, in fact, that the promise of a certain and guaranteed anonymity would have ended up attracting both illegal money launders and drug dealers to cryptocurrencies, united by a single motivation: to escape the Tax Office. The objective of this new unit is to identify and clarify how users of virtual currency markets convert cash into cryptocurrency and vice versa. He also acquired a long experience in monitoring cryptocurrency working on hundreds of identity theft cases. The next step will be to create new specialized teams with ad hoc skills to develop high impact cases. Apart from the cryptocurrency and the flow of funds out of Switzerland, the international team will focus on tax crimes involving expats and cases arising from the law on the taxation of foreign accounts.
