In a press release dated 17 October 2019, the European Commission announced that it had reached an agreement on Brexit, the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union. The memorandum of understanding on Ireland/Northern Ireland and the revised political declaration were also drawn up. The President of the European Commission has stated that the agreement can be considered a fair compromise between the EU and the United Kingdom and is a testament to the commitment and willingness of the parties to do what is best for citizens of both the EU and the UK . It is now up to the European Council to approve the withdrawal agreement in its entirety, as well as to approve the revised political declaration in relation to the framework of future relations. Furthermore, before it can enter into force, the withdrawal agreement must be ratified by the EU and the United Kingdom.
