After the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the European Supervisory Authorities, namely EBA, EIOPA and ESMA, have increased their cooperation between themselves, between National Competent Authorities (NCAs) and with all important authorities from other jurisdictions; such relations shall be able to give a unified front and a coordinated response to the difficulties that have been vexing Europe since the Covid-19 outbreak. Specifically, the ESAs have drafted and issued as specific report on Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) to amend the Delegated Regulation on the risk mitigation techniques for non-centrally cleared OTC derivatives (bilateral margining); this concerns the enforcement on EMIR, European Markets Infrastructure Regulation, with the aim to incorporate a one-year deferral of the two implementation phases of the bilateral margining requirements. On April 3rd, 2020, then, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Organisation of Securities Commission already agreed on the requested deferral.
