One of the difficulties that arose since the Covid-19 outbreak concerns the media sector and, specifically, the accuracy and transparency of the information that the sector provides. Each Member State faces the difficulty of having to avoid a general disinformation about the pandemic, creating management issues of the crisis; EU Parliament worries about a worsening of the financial situation that may create an impossibility for news organisations to provide clear and real information to make all citizen able to grasp the difficult issues concerning the problem. These could be the consequences of the massive drop of advertising revenues that was caused by the economic crisis after the spread of Covid-19. Consequently, on April 17th, 2020, MEPs issued a resolution with which they maintain that disinformation about the pandemic constitutes a major public health issue and that all people, notwithstanding the economic status, shall have access to truthful and accurate information and that a free independent and sufficiently funded media is necessary for democracy. In fact, the resolution points out that the freedom of expression and media freedom and pluralism are a pillar both of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.
