The WTO is setting up a path towards transparency and is trying to enhance said path also through trade monitoring reports according with which WTO members are supposed to send updates on a regular basis and, according to those, the organization intends to improve its policy measures. These kind of reports are issued by the WTO Secretariat and are drafted twice a year with a different content: the first is concerned with trade-related developments covering the whole WTO membership while the other consists in joint reports with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on trade and investment measures taken by G-20 economies. On September 3rd, 2020, the WTO notified its members on new measures that will enter into force and the requests for information that need to be supplied within a certain deadline. In the same communication, the WTO clearly referred to the COVID-19 pandemic and invited members and observers to provide information on trade-related measures taken in response to the crisis.
