On February 3rd, 2021, the European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA) delivered to the European Commission the written text on Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) for what concerns the amendments to the key information document for packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (PRIIPs). In December 2020, the European Commission asked the Board of Supervisors of EIOPA to study and analyze the draft RTS that the Board has now approved even though the approval was not without discussion; numerous representatives of national authorities within the Board expressed their concern on the draft. Nonetheless, the national competent authorities confided in the new details on the general view on PRIIPs by the European Commission and specifically on how to achieve better alignment between PRIIPs, Insurance Distribution Directive and Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II, the scope of products, how to ensure that the KID contains the key information necessary for retail investors, how to allow the creation of a digitalized KID allowing layered information and reviewing the default paper basis of the KID.
