In accordance with what stated in the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) the WTO Committee on Trade Facilitation has to make the first review that was intended to be every four years after the entry into force of the Agreement in 2017. On March 3rd, 2021, the WTO Committee on Trade Facilitation decided to draw a plan to proceed with the review on the implementation of the TFA; the Chair of the Committee, Mr O’Toole, started the consultation. According to the prevailing opinion, the review has to be set towards highlighting the improvements that have been made, with a positive approach, as well as the possible ameliorations that can be made towards a better implementation of the TFA. The objective of the Committee, as it appeared after the consultation, is to finish the reviewing process within the year to have the final product for the 12th Ministerial Conference in late 2021 and, in order to do so, the members also provided for a plan that includes discussions of a draft factual report that will be prepared by the WTO Secretariat.
