In order to help Least Developed Countries to enhance their businesses and to grow their participation in agricultural trade, Germany decided to assess 150.000 EUR for the year 2021, granting such amount to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) which aims at supporting LDCs complying with international food safety, animal and plant health standards while continuing to perform its work towards a better unitary and coherent approach to the SPS capacity development. The STDF was created by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the World Bank Group, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the WTO. WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated on the matter: “This contribution will help developing countries and LDCs to maximize the benefits of trade by improving their ability to comply with SPS requirements. As one of the main contributors to the WTO’s technical assistance activities, Germany demonstrates once more its commitment to helping developing countries and LDCs participate more actively in global agricultural markets for the benefit of thousands of farmers.”
