On the occasion of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference that will take place from November 30th, 2021, and December 3rd, 2021, the European Union is contributing EUR 75,000 to help the least-developed countries (LDCs) within the WTO membership participate in the Ministerial Conference. The contribution will be made directly to the LDCs Trust Fund, which is set up for each Ministerial Conference, and the funding will help cover travel expenses for officials from LDCs attending the Conference. The WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated that: “The EU's generous donation will help to ensure that LDCs can make their voices heard in multilateral trade negotiations […] Such support is an important building block for making MC12 truly inclusive and for generating trade-related outcomes to improve the well-being of people worldwide.”
Overall, the EU has donated EUR 26.5 million to the various WTO trust funds over the past 20 years.
