Articoli Correlati: MEPs - blockade - Hungary

MEPs criticize the use of the national veto in tax matters, calling for an immediate end to the blockade in Hungary and re-launching the discussion on the introduction of majority voting. In a resolution passed on July 6th, 2022, at the conclusion of the debate held during the plenary session in June, MEPs say that the requests notified by Hungary to lift the blockade of the international agreement on a global minimum level of taxes for multinationals have already been discussed and Hungary shall end the blockade as soon as possible. MEPs urge the Commission and the Council to withhold from politics and avoid to approve the Hungarian national plan for recovery and resilience until the country fully complied with the requirements of the regulation. Finally, MEPs remind EU countries that unanimous decision-making in the EU requires high responsibility, in line with the principle of loyal cooperation, as established in the Treaty on European Union (TEU). In the longer term, Member States should consider the added value of the transition to qualified majority voting and the Commission should re-launch the discussion on the gradual introduction of such voting on tax issues.
