Articoli Correlati: MEPs - RepowerEU - transport sector
On September 14th, 2022, MEPs approved the revised Renewable Energy Directive to increase the share of renewables in EU final energy consumption to 45% by 2030, an objective that is supported by the Commission under “RepowerEU”. Specifically, the new legislation on renewables is focused on the transport sector and district heating and cooling of buildings. For what concerns the transport sector, the use of renewable energies should lead to a 16% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and, on the other hand, the industry would be called upon to increase the use of renewables by 1.9% per year and district heating networks by 2.3%. Each EU country will have to develop two cross-border projects for the expansion of green electricity. Countries with an annual electricity consumption of more than 100 TWh will need to develop a third of that by 2030. The deputies also adopted amendments calling for a gradual reduction in the share of primary wood considered as renewable energy.
