On October 4th, 2022, the EU Parliament approved new EU legislation that will soon allow consumers to use a single charger for their electronic devices by the end of 2024.

All mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU will have to have a USB-C charging port and from spring 2026 the obligation will extend to laptops. Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a charger every time they buy a new device, as the same charger can be used on a variety of small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. Regardless of manufacturer, all new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headsets and headphones, handheld game consoles and portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems, wired rechargeable headphones and laptops, operating with a power of up to 100 Watts, they must be equipped with a USB-C port. All devices that support fast charging will have the same charging speed, which will allow users to charge their devices at the same speed with any compatible charger.
