Articoli Correlati: EU Parliament, - Hungary - rule of law

On November 24th, 2022, with a non-legislative resolution, MEPs maintain that Hungary’s 17 corrective measures agreed by the Commission are not enough to address the systemic risk to the EU’s financial interests, even if they are fully implemented. MEPs urge EU countries to adopt measures contained in the conditionality regulation in order to protect the EU budget from breaches of rule of law principles in Hungary and to lift them only after Hungary’s corrective measures have had a lasting effect. Furthermore, they add that if these measures were to be lifted in the future, the EU would have to resort to a financial correction. The EU Parliament finds it regrettable that the funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Hungary (PNRR) have not yet reached the Hungarian people due to the actions of their government. According to the EP, EU funds in Hungary are still at risk of being misused and the Commission should not approve the country’s NRRP until it fully complies with all rule of law recommendations, as well as all relevant court rulings of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights.
